What is a dry riser? A dry riser is a system of valves and pipework which the fire brigade use to pump water to the upper floors of a building. A dry riser system can be found in premises of 18 metres and above, or in low level buildings where there are excessive
distances from entrances (60m).
Testing Buildings which have dry risers must comply with the new British Standard BS 9990:2006, should be visually inspected every six months and pressure tested annually. The responsibility of ensuring that this test is completed belongs either to the owner of the premises, or Facilities Management Company. Safety Our work is carried out by experienced engineers which entails a full risk assessment as per our method statement. All testing is covered by the necessary insurance. Maintainance Check all valves open and close, leave closed. (Strap and lock if required). Replacing all outlet washers. (If required).Replacing all damaged or missing blank caps and chains. (If required) Checking that all hand wheels and nuts are undamaged and in place. Checking landing outlets are free moving and undamaged.
Checking the air release valve and replacing if necessary. Checking the inlet cabinet and door for corrosion. Checking that the inlet breaching valve springs, and that the rubbers are free moving and in good condition. Checking the glazing and sign in the door.Lubricating all moving parts. |
